Red Sox take on Yankees in a 3 game series to kick off Red Sox final home stand of the year

The Red Sox will take on the Yankees in the final home stand of their season in anything but a successful season for the Red Sox. Every game between these two teams have each been in the Bronx, and the Yankees have won all 7 games.

Tonight: 9/18

Jordan Montgomery (2-2 4.76 ERA) vs. Martin Perez (3-4 4.33 ERA)

Tonight will be a battle of two southpaws. For the Yankees, Montgomery has been solid, but very inconsistent in his starts. He was very efficient in his last start, going 5.2 IP only allowing 3 hits and 1 run, but no earned runs.

For the Red Sox tonight it will be Martin Perez, who has been the Red Sox best starter this season. In his last outing he picked up his third win of the season, going 5 IP with just 5 hits and 3 runs with 2 of those being earned. Martin will look to improve his record to .500 as he’ll go for his fourth win of the season. He is 2-3 with a career 9.85 ERA against the Yankees.

The Red Sox will seek their 20th win, while the Yankees go for their 30th win.

Saturday: 9/19

J.A. Happ (1-2 3.96 ERA) vs. Red Sox TBD

J.A Happ comes in to this game after lowering his ERA below 4. In his last start against Baltimore, he went 5 IP only allowing 5 hits and just 1 run. He’s turned his performances around after starting a bit slow, as he’s had a great last couple of outings.

The Red Sox do not have anyone scheduled for the start at the moment. Roenicke will probably go to someone like Triggs or Brewer to open the game.

Sunday: 9/20

Deivi Garcia (2-1 3.28 ERA) vs. Tanner Houck (1-0 0.00 ERA)

Deivi Garcia has been outstanding for the Yankees this season. He’s been a crucial piece to this rotation, which absolutely no one expected. He’s coming off of a 7 inning performance where he allowed 3 runs off of 6 hits against the Blue Jays.

Tanner Houck is coming off of his debut where he threw 5 scoreless innings, and only allowed 2 hits. He picked up the win in his debut against the Marlins. He’ll be introduced to the historic Red Sox-Yankees rivalry in just his second start.

Two hot pitchers going at it, it should be a low scoring game.

Red Sox:

The Red Sox come into this game coming off of a series win over the Marlins, as they enter the series 19-32. The Red Sox are 1-15 in the past 16 meetings against the Yankees. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Yankees:

The Yankees are coming off of a monstrous series sweep over the Blue Jays where they scored 43 runs total in that series, which was just three games. They are on a 7 game win streak entering this series, and before that they were 5-20 in their last 25 games, where they couldn’t seem to get an out. Now, they’re on fire, 8-2 in their last 10 games including the 7 game win streak they are on.

Prediction:

With the Red Sox playing fairly good baseball as of late, and the Yankees on fire, the Red Sox should manage to win at least one game. That would probably come on either Friday or Sunday, because when the Red Sox have a reliever open the game for them, that never goes so well.

The Red Sox will take on the Yankees in the final home stand of their season in anything but a successful season for the Red Sox. Every game between these two teams have each been in the Bronx, and the Yankees have won all 7 games. Tonight: 9/18Jordan
