Steve Nash, known for his 10 seasons with the Suns, has agreed to terms to become the Brooklyn Nets next head coach. Part of the 2018 Hall of Fame Class, Nash is also a two-time MVP. He hopes that his long list of playing success can translate into a productive first coaching position.
Nash’s contract is reportedly a 4-year deal. After the signing, Nets GM Sean Marks said, “In Steve we see a leader, communicator and mentor who will garner the respect of our players. I have had the privilege to know Steve for many years. One of the great on-court leaders in our game, I have witnessed first hand his basketball acumen and selfless approach to prioritize team success. His instincts for the game, combined with an inherent ability to communicate with and unite players towards a common goal, will prepare us to compete at the highest levels of the league.” Marks also knows Nash from their days in Phoenix. The duo played together from 2006-2008. Even though Nash has no coaching experience, his leadership, communication, and mentorship could lead the Nets to a top seed next season.
Steve Nash coaching predictions:
- The Nets pacing and passing will be greatly improved. Points in the paint will come much easier.
- The Nets will make the playoffs. Nash’s strong leadership will put them in contention.
- Kevin Durant will put up an All Star season. Nash and KD have a strong relationship, stemming from their time together with the Warriors.
In my opinion, this was a great hire by the Nets. Mentioning Nash’s lack of coaching experience is a poor excuse to believe he will not be a good coach. Nash is a leader on and off the court. This was a great hire by Sean Marks and Nash is the missing piece for an extremely talented Nets team.
