New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas produced a campaign for the ages in the 2019 season. With 149 receptions for 1,725 yards and 9 touchdowns, the Ohio State product seemed to establish himself as perhaps the top receiver in the NFL. Unfortunately for Thomas, the 2020 season has so far been the worst of his career.
SportsCastr News NFL’s Lawrence Owen outlines early in his stream that it has been a very turbulent first seven weeks for Michael Thomas. After recently recovering from a Week 1 ankle injury, it was reported that Thomas tweaked his hamstring in practice this week, rendering him questionable for this week’s match-up versus the Carolina Panthers.
Injuries are not the only problem that the 27-year old has faced this season: Thomas was suspended for the Saints Week 5 match-up against the Los Angeles Chargers. The suspension was due to an altercation in practice that involved Thomas allegedly punching a teammate.
On his SportsCastr stream, Lawrence Owen poses a very important question: “Do you feel that your team is better with Michael Thomas on the field?” While his 2019 season showed what the receiver can do on the field, it is possible that his attitude and relationship with teammates can be a net negative for the team.
With an aging Drew Brees, it seems the Saints may be on the decline. While it is never wise to doubt Sean Payton, this could be a pivotal season for the franchise.
