Who should be the Patriots starting quarterback vs Bills?

The post Tom Brady era in New England hasn’t gone exactly the way the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick envisioned. After starting the season 2-1, and most people believing that the Patriots could have been 3-0, the Patriots now find themselves 2-4 and the third worst team in the AFC East.

The Patriots acquired Cam Newton at the end of June, and the presence of the former MVP gave Pats Nation a confidence boost. After an all around terrible loss last Sunday to the San Francisco 49ers, we wondered how much confidence Patriots fans had in their starting quarterback this Sunday against the Bills.

The poll shows that Patriots fans still have confidence in Cam Newton, and so they should. I have an issue accepting that Cam Newton went from looking like the comeback player of the year; to a less than mediocre quarterback. Logic tells me that at some point Newton will bounce back, and start playing the way we expected him to play, and that could start in Buffalo.

Jarrett Stidham got a fair share of the votes, and I don’t get the confidence in Stidham. We’ve seen him take the field twice and play bad twice. Going back to his pick six against the New York Jets last season, Stidham just hasn’t shown that he’s ready for the NFL. Conor Carney from DPN Commentary has expressed he still has faith that Stidham could one day be the starter, but I’m not convinced. We heard during the offseason that Stidham had taken massive steps, but watching his play so far this season, how bad was he last season if this is him after taking “massive steps”?

Brian Hoyer got some votes, and I’m convinced this was just somebody having some fun, because there is no reason that Brian Hoyer should ever start an NFL game again. What we saw against the Kansas City Chiefs; was a veteran quarterback who had no pocket awareness, no sense of the game, and lost count of how many timeouts the Patriots had left. Is there any more I need to write, do you need a deep dive into Hoyer’s entire career and how he has been awful as a starter?… Moving on…

As you can see above, one user said Trevor Lawrence, and that got me thinking, are the Patriots bad enough to come close to drafting Lawrence?

If Belichick were to make some massive trades, and basically moved on from every talented player he had, maybe the Patriots would have a chance, but the New York Jets may not win a game this season, and reports have indicated that the Jets are tanking for Trevor. In order to get into the top 3 picks and have a chance to pick one of the top quarterback either Lawrence, Justin Fields, or Trey Lance, the Patriots are going to have to lose a lot more games, and I just don’t think this squad or Belichick has it in them to lose enough games. They may only win three more games this season, but that probably won’t be enough to thrust them into a top three pick.
