The New England Patriots should be in a position to pick up their third win of the season when they face winless New York Jets on Monday Night Football. But according to Adam Schefter, Sam Darnold is doubtful for Monday, and that means Joe Flacco is now set to start for New York, and he’s never made things easy for New England.
“Jets’ head coach Adam Gase said QB Sam Darnold won’t practice today and is doubtful to play Monday against the Patriots”, Adam Schefter posted to Twitter on Friday.
Darnold originally sustained a shoulder injury week 4 against the Denver Broncos, and though he fought through the injury, Darnold sat out the Jets next game against the Miami Dolphins. Darnold took a big hit against the Kansas City Chiefs last week and aggravated his shoulder, but there was optimism on Monday that Darnold would be able to suit up against the Patriots, but after missing practice on Thursday he didn’t feel right on Friday.
“Speaking to reporters Friday after practice, Darnold’s mood seemed down as he discussed his prospects for Monday night”, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “He was noncommittal, saying he needed to take it day by day — a big change from his upbeat demeanor on Monday.”
Bill Belichick is now preparing to face a Flacco led Jets team. Flacco and the Patriots have had some epic battles throughout the years, but that was when he played for the Baltimore Ravens, now Flacco plays for a different team, and he has struggled in the play time he’s had in New York. New England is also sending out a different quarterback, and Flacco couldn’t help but notice how different things are now.
“I think it’s more strange to see Tom probably in a different uniform than it is to see them without him,” the Jets’ backup QB said on Saturday, via the New York Post. “But yeah, for sure, it’s definitely something that we’ve all been used to, and really, it kind of seems like my whole life, that’s how it’s been. It’s definitely a little different.“I think when you’ve played as many games and seen as many games as I have, nothing really surprises you. This league doesn’t give anybody any room to breathe. If you make mistakes that you usually don’t make, it’s not forgiving to anyone. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done in the past.”
Both teams are at the bottom of the AFC East, the are Patriots in a better position to try and turn their season around, but a division game on Monday Night Football always seems to develop into something unexpected, and with Joe Flacco now in the mix, the Patriots will have to have a great game, even with New York sporting an 0-8 record.Tags: Jets, Joe Flacco, New England Patriots, New York Jets, NFL, Patriots, Sam Darnold, SCN, SCN NFL, SCNNFL, SportsCastr, SportsCastr News Last modified: November 8, 2020
