Many teams at the top of the NBA Draft are in need of a superstar player. It stands to reason that the worst teams in the NBA would have the worst players. Despite having the first and seventeenth pick in this year’s draft, the Timberwolves are a unique case in that they most likely think they have not one, but two franchise players on their roster in Karl Anthony-Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
SportsCastr News NBA’s Matt Brooks discussed the rumors that the T-Wolves and the Atlanta Hawks may be in discussions to swap their picks, with Jarrett Culver also being sent to the Hawks. In his SportsCastr stream, Matt acknowledged that both of these teams seem to be hungry to make the playoffs. These moves aren’t made to accumulate future talent, but rather to prepare for a playoff push this season.
The Hawks pick seems to be quite attractive to teams across the league. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor reported that multiple teams, including the Celtics and the Pelicans, could be preparing a deal of their own. With a young core lead by guard Trae Young, this trade back in the draft could help to provide more talent for the young team.
Elsewhere on the SportsCastr stream, Matt brought up the trade rumors between the Suns and the Thunder. The Thunder could be looking to ship veteran guard Chris Paul to Phoenix in exchange for an unspecified combination of picks and/or players. Pairing Paul with rising star Devin Booker could make for an intriguing duo in the competitive Western Conference.
